from the Stack's Bowers 2017 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72555

This specimen was lot 72555 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1702-MoL. Philip V (1700-46). NGC FINE-15. VERY RARE date. Clear 4 digit date with full cross on the reverse." The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
