Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 366

This specimen was lot 366 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $357. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 1/2 real, 1687(L), very rare, ex-1715 Fleet. Full date (missing in the State of Florida collection), partial monogram and cross on a long, pointed flan with patchy dark toning, minimal corrosion. From the 1715 Fleet, with Sedwick certificate from 2003. Auction lot-tag personally signed by John Pullin. The John Pullin Collection of Dated Mexican Cobs." The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728. They are not rare but very scarce with legible dates. Cayón lists this scarce type for 1668-69, 1671, 1673, 1677-78, 1681-85, 1689-90, 1694-95 and 1697 altho this coin is evidence tha tother dates exist.
