Sedwick Treasure auction 27, lot 471

This specimen was lot 471 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $446.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1660P. Squarish flan with bold full date, bold full cross, full shield and oMP, VF with slight surface oxidation and tiny dark spots." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1621-65. Specimens with clear dates are unusual. In 1728, cobs were debased from .931 to 0.917 fine silver.
