Mexico 1632-Mo D 8 reales
This specimen was lot 136 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, 1632/1 D, extremely rare, ex-Rudman. Choice coin struck on a very neat fat-barrel-shaped flan with bold full shield and oMD, clear bottom half of date with final digit Z above and left of what looks like a very offset under-digit I (close to the inner border), making it look somewhat like a 4, but with full cross-lions-castles showing slightly exaggerated fleur-tips (an aspect of 1630-32 only), minimal surface corrosion, deeply toned all over. Pedigreed to the Rudman Collection. Recovered from Concepción, sunk in 1641 off Hispaniola." This type was struck 1621-67 in Mexico City and is not rare except in high grade. The vast majority lack dates. The overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC.
