This specimen was lot 310 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 4 reales, 1625/4 D, rare. Choice example with excellent full cross and shield, full oMD and very bold full 5/4 overdate, deeply toned and corrosion-free. Recovered from: 'Lucayan Beach Wreck,' sunk ca. 1628 off Grand Bahama Island." The SCWC mentions this type for 1621-67 and notes 1618-34 with assayer "D". Few of these early cobs have legible dates which is why this date is unlisted.
