The first specimen was lot 496 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $357. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 1/2 real, 1611/0/9F/A, rare. Bold date with fairly clear 1/0 overdate, full monogram with oM to left and fleur-de-lis below, the weaker F/A to right (and 0/9 in date) confirmed by comparison to a clearer specimen in the Banco de Mexico collection, nice full cross-lions-castles, lustrous and high grade (AU) but somewhat grainy from die-rust and surface oxidation." The second specimen was lot 522 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[2] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 1/2 real, 1611/10/09F/A.Broad flan with full and clear date and overdate, the F/A to right weaker but expected, also full mintmark oM to left, good full monogram and crown, full but crude cross, darkly toned VF with trace of porosity on reverse." This specimen is a silver cob half real struck at Mexico City 1607-18. Specimens with clear dates are unusual. In 1728, cobs were debased from .931 to 0.917 fine silver.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.931 fine silver, the first specimen 1.42 grams, the second specimen 1.68 grams.

Catalog reference: S-M17; KM-21 for type; Cal-unlisted, Cayón-unlisted.
