After the hammered coinage of Charles V, the government's need for fast cash caused the coinage to degenerate to mere cobs such as this two reales from the reign of Philip II (1556-98). No coinage of Philip II bear dates; the oldest dated coin from Mexico is from 1607, during the reign of Philip III. Assayer F is also recorded for this type.
