Jean Elsen sale 147, lot 1898

This specimen was lot 1898 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it sold for €420 (about US$614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ILE MAURICE, République (1968-), AV 250 rupees, 1988. Petits coups au droit. Fleur de Coin. (republic of Mauritius, since 1968, gold 250 rupees of 1988. Minor nicks on the obverse, Uncirculated.)"

This NCLT was accompanied by a 100 rupees (KM 57), 500 rupees (KM 59) and 1000 rupees (KM 60). Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, KCMG, QC (1930-2021) was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. We don't why this coin was issued during his lifetime, altho it may have been intended for a series of bullion coins which ended up being one year types.
