This specimen was lot 34652 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mauritius: Elizabeth II gold 1000 Rupees 1988 MS66 NGC. A large denomination modern gold piece with an attractive hint of cameo contrast." This NCLT was accompanied by a 100 rupees (KM 57), 250 rupees (KM 58) and 500 rupees (KM 59). Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, KCMG, QC (1930-2021) was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. We don't why this coin was issued during his lifetime, altho it may have been intended for a series of bullion coins which ended up being one year types.
