Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1239
Mauritius Stacks Jan15-1239r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1239 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 1,000 Rupees, 1982. NGC PROOF-68 ULTRA CAMEO. Year of disabled persons. Mintage of only 48 pieces." This rare type was minted in too low a number to warrant a serious marketing effort so we presume all the specimens went to regime insiders. A silver 25 rupees on the same topic (KM 49) is more generally available.

Recorded mintage: 45 "uncirculated" plus 48 proofs.

Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .468 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-5; KM-50.
