This specimen was lot 78171 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 10 Cents, 1954. London Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-64." This type, struck intermittently 1954-78, used the same module as the ten cents struck for George VI in 1947 and 1952. The previous ten cents, last struck for queen Victoria in 1897, had been silver. The 1954 is common, verging on worthless, but the proofs are rare. The scalloping was used because this denomination was about the same size as the copper-nickel half rupee.
Recorded mintage: 252,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 5.15 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-33.
