Mansfeld-Eisleben 1606-GM thaler Dav-6932
This specimen was lot 31013 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Mansfeld-Eisleben. Jobst II Taler 1606-GM MS63 NGC, Eisleben mint. St. George right slaying dragon below / Helmeted arms with G M, double lily and date between helmets. Shimmering luster pools towards the rims of this preeminently executed example with meticulously detailed devices, all veiled in a drapery of almond and bisque toning. From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This branch survived until 1710; the county was annexed to Saxony when the last line died out in 1780. This type was struck 1603-11. While not rare, it is on the high side for a thaler from this state.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
