Kunker sale 293, lot 1008

This specimen was lot 1008 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,078 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MANSFELD, MANSFELD-BORNSTEDT, GRAFSCHAFT, Bruno II. Wilhelm I. und Johann Georg IV. 1604-1607. Reichstaler 1606, Eisleben. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Mansfeld-Bornstedt, joint rule of Bruno II, William I and John George IV, 1604-07, thaler of 1606, Eisleben mint. Fine toning, extremely fine.)"

This type is noted for 1604-07. As all the Mansfeld thalers look very similar, there is little enthusiasm for collecting all the variations. The county was annexed to Saxony when the last line died out in 1780.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-6916, Tornau 131 a, KM 7.
