This specimen was lot 3741 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $529. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Mansfeld-Eisleben. Taler, 1577/6. Johann-Georg I, Peter-Ernst I, Johann-Hoyer III, 1573-1579. Arms. Reverse: St. Ge[or]ge. Toned. NGC graded EF-45. Ex: Purchased by private treaty in 1981." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This one is very similar to Dav-9495 but that one has a full four figure date. This one is known for 1573-78.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
