Künker sale 263, lot 1030

This specimen was lot 1030 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €380 (about US$491 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MANSFELD-EISLEBEN, GRAFSCHAFT Johann Georg I. Peter Ernst I. und Johann Hoyer III. 1573-1579. Reichstaler 1577, Eisleben, mit Titel Rudolfs II. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Mansfeld-Eisleben, John George, Peter Ernest and John Hoyer III, 1573-79, thaler of 1577, Eisleben mint, in the name of Rudolf II. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This one is very similar to Dav-9494, which has only a two digit date. It was minted 1577-79.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM MB63, Dav-9495; Tornau 392 f var.
