Stephen Album sale 47, lot 1147

This specimen was lot 1147 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALAYSIA: Constitutional Monarchy, AV 500 ringgit, 1981-FM, 4th Malaysian 5-Year Plan, with original blue wallet and COA, mintage of only 1,000 pieces; struck by the Franklin Mint, Proof, R." The five year plan, invented by Joseph Stalin and beloved by leaders of command economies, is no longer so popular as it once was. This NCLT is a relic of the Franklin Mint's foray into contract minting.

Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 10.26 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM-31.
