Majorca (1458-79) florin Fr-10
This specimen was lot 3788 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$656 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SPAIN, Mallorca, Alfonso II. 1458-1479 Florin o. J. Mallorca Münzzeichen: Zwei Hunde (Dos perros). Sehr schön. (Spain, kingdom of Mallorca, Alphonse II, 1458-79, undated florin, Mallorca mint, mintmark: two dogs. Very fine.)"
The gold florin (shown here) and half florin (Cayón 2127) were struck for Alfonso II, with the half florin being much scarcer than florin. In addition to the two dogs mintmark shown here, there are also two stars, two lilies or two mountains. Alfonso also struck silver reales, half reales, billon doblers and diners at Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands.
