Steve Album sale 51, lot 2761

This specimen was lot 2761 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MADRAS PRESIDENCY: AR rupee, Chinapatan, AH1123 year 5, in the name of the Mughal Shah Alam I; bold strike, XF." This type was struck in the name of the Mughal emperor years 1-6. Chinapattan is a town south of Madras (Chennai), known to the British as Chingleput and today called Chengalpattu. The British operated a mint there until 1869.
