Steve Album sale 51, lot 2760

This specimen was lot 2760 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MADRAS PRESIDENCY: AR rupee, Chinapatan, year 40, in the name of the Mughal Aurangzeb, nicely centered strike, bold XF, R." This type was struck in the name of the Mughal emperor years 38-51. Only year 38 has the AH 1103 date. Chinapatan was the old Mughal name for Madras.

Specifications: 11.59 g, silver, 23.4 mm diameter, this specimen 11.54 g.
