Steve Album Auction 55, lot 2638

This specimen was lot 2638 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "MADRAS PRESIDENCY: AR rupee, Chinapatan, year 39, in the name of Aurangzeb; rare date, VF-XF, R." This type was struck in the name of the Mughal emperor years 38-51. Only year 38 has the AH 1103 date. Chinapattan is a town south of Madras (Chennai), known to the British as Chingleput and today called Chengalpattu.

Specification: 11.59 g, silver, 23.4 mm diameter, this specimen 11.55 g.
