Luzern 1725 ducat Fr-318
This specimen was lot 1428 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 16,000 CHF (about US$24,384 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Lucerne | Stadt und Kanton. Dukat 1725, Luzern. Der stehende heilige Leodegar im Bischofsornat von vorn, in der Rechten den Bohrer und in der Linken den Krummstab haltend. Rv. In geschwungener Barock-Kartusche mehrzeiliger, gebogener Schriftzug. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Switzerland, canton of Lucerne, ducat of 1725, Luzern mint. Obverse: St. Leodegar stands, holding a borer and a crozier; reverse: inscription in baroque cartouche. Extremely rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"
This is one of the rarest ducats of a rare series. St. Leodegar made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
