Luzern 1614 schilling
This specimen was lot 4303 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$222 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Schilling 1614, Luzern. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, schilling of 1614, Luzern mint. About Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1611-22 in many varieties including five for 1614 alone. At this time, one thaler made 36 schilling or 72 kreuzer. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
