Luzern 1616 schilling
This specimen was part of lot 5338 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$791 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ. Luzern. Stadt und Kanton. Schilling 1616, 1617, Luzern. Lot von 2 Stück. Selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, schilling of 1616 and 1617, Luzern mint. Rare, Very Fine, two pieces.)"
This type was struck in numerous varieties 1611-22 and undated. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679. One thaler was 36 schilling or 72 kreuzer.
