Luzern 1617 dicken
This specimen was lot 5339 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$1,131 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ. Luzern. Stadt und Kanton. Dicken 1617, Luzern. Kleines Zainende. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, dicken of 1617, Luzern mint. Minor edge clip, Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck in numerous varieties 1617-22. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679. In other cantons, the dicken was 24 kreuzer or 4/15 thaler but in Luzern it was worth a quarter thaler.
