Sincona sale 63, lot 307

This specimen was lot 307 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,130 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Lüneburg, Stadt, Taler 1562. Der Löwenschild nach links geneigt. Sehr schön. Gut ausgeprägt mit Patina. (Germany, city of Luneburg, thaler of 1562, lion to left. Very fine, Well struck with patina.)"

Davenport lists this type for 1546-48 and 1561-62. This thaler was not issued by the duke of Brunswick-Luneburg but by the city in its own name.
