Lubeck 1742-JJJ thaler Dav-2418
This specimen was lot 991 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,281 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LÜBECK, STADT, Reichstaler 1742, mit Titel Karls VII. und dem Abzeichen des Bürgermeisters Heinrich Balemann. Mit Randschrift. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Lubeck, thaler of 1742, struck in the name of Charles VII and the initials of mayor Henry Balemann, with edge lettering. Attractive example, extremely fine.)"
It was struck for the pretender Charles VII, the last serious challenger to the Hapsburg claim to be Holy Roman Emperor.
