This specimen was lot 667 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Lubeck. Taler, 1731-JJJ. NGC MS-64. Finest certified. Obverse depicts St. John holding a lamb. Attractive iridescent toning. Well struck with very crisp details. An exceptional example with great eye appeal. From the Rockaway Collection." This is one of the few thalers issued by the city of Lubeck in the eighteenth century. Most collectors make do with slightly smaller 48 schilling pieces.
