Lubeck (1603-09) thaler Dav-LS331
This specimen was lot 4030 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LÜBECK, STADT. Breiter Taler o. J. (1603/1609), mit dem Abzeichen des Bürgermeisters Gotthard von Höveln. RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (Germany, city of Lübeck, undated broad thaler, with the badge of mayor Gotthard of Hoveln. Rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"
Several varieties exist of this issue; this one has the obverse legend spelled "EST·OCCASIo". The dies were also used to strike 4, 3, 1½ and double thalers Dav-LS329). All are rare.
