Lubeck (1603-09) 2 thaler Dav-LS329
This specimen was lot 4029 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,243 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LÜBECK, STADT. Breiter Doppeltaler o. J. (1603/1609), mit dem Abzeichen des Bürgermeisters Gotthard von Höveln. RR Feine Patina, Henkelspur, mit Gravur (H . E . M), sehr schön. (Germany, city of Lubeck, undated broad double thaler, with the badge of mayor Gotthard of Hoveln. Rare, fine patina, mount mark and "H·E·M" graffiti, very fine.)"
Several varieties exist of this issue; this one has the obverse legend spelled "EST·OCCASIO". The dies were also used to strike 4, 3, 1½ and single thalers Dav-LS331). All are rare.
