This specimen was lot 980 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,313 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÖWENSTEIN, LÖWENSTEIN-WERTHEIM-ROCHEFORT, GRAFSCHAFT, Johann Theodor, 1611-1644. Reichstaler 1623, Wertheim, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives, sehr schönes Exemplar. (Germany, county of Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort, John Theodore, 1611-44, thaler of 1623, Wertheim mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Very rare, attractive very fine example.)"

This is one of a few rare thalers of the seventeenth century from this insignificant locale wedged between Mainz and Wurzburg. In 1635, the county was partitioned between Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort and Lowenstein-Wertheim-Virneberg. It is noted for 1623-24.
