Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72084
SB1021-72084r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72084 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Livonia (Riga). Solidus, (16)55. Riga Mint. Karl X Gustav. PCGS MS-62. Struck during the Swedish occupation. A well centered and very boldly detailed Solidus, with bright metallic field luster and some rust-colored streaks on the planchet." This obscure type is listed for 1654-60. This denomination as issued for queen Christina (KM 21) is quite a bit more available. Riga and Livonia were seized by Sweden from Poland in 1621 and retained by them until their loss to Russia in 1721. The auctioneers sold this as a 1655 but we believe it's a 1658.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-50.
