Steve Album Auction 52, lot 2689

This specimen was lot 2689 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "LITHUANIA: Republic, AR 50 litu, 1998, initials LMK, Grand Duke Algirdas, in original plush case [with] COA, mintage of only 2,998 pieces, Choice Proof." Wikipedia comments, "Algirdas balanced himself between Principality of Moscow and Poland, spoke Lithuanian and Ruthenian (among other languages) and followed the majority of his pagan and Orthodox subjects rather than to alienate them by promoting Roman Catholicism. His son Jogaila ascended the Polish throne, converted to Roman Catholicism and founded the dynasty which ruled Lithuania and Poland for nearly 200 years." In 1999, Lithuania issued an NCLT honoring his brother, grand duke Kęstutis.
