This specimen was lot 4173 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $833.75. The catalog description [2] noted, "Liberia. 20 Dollars, 1964-B. William Vacanarat Shadrach Tubman. NGC graded MS-66. The Judy Cahn Collection." This type was struck to honor president Tubman (1895-1971, ruled 1944-71). In recent years, Liberia has become known for dozens of privately struck commemoratives, produced under license from the regime.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus 100 proofs.
