This specimen was lot 71678 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBERIA. 25 Dollars, 1965-B. Bern Mint. NGC MS-69. Struck to commemorate the 70th birthday of President Tubman. Wonderfully preserved with stunning orange-gold tone around the outer edges that compliments the appearance." William V. S. Tubman was president of Liberia from 1944 until his death in 1971. Another NCLT was issued in 1970 to mark his 75th birthday. In recent years, Liberia has become known for dozens of privately struck commemoratives, produced under license from the regime.
