This specimen was lot 21134 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $4,935. The catalog description[1] noted, "LESOTHO. 20 Maloti, 1969. NGC PROOF-67 ULTRA CAMEO. The largest denomination struck for the F.A.O. proof set of this year. Nicely preserved with no flecks or breaks in the frosted devices and brilliant fields. Some mild toning in the reverse legends. Tied with three other examples as the finest graded." The F.A.O. series was intended for circulating coinage; we don't know why gold was selected for this issue.
