This specimen was lot 71675 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "LESOTHO. Maloti, 1966. Moshoeshoe II. NGC PROOF-68 Cameo. Struck to commemorate independence attained. Delicately cameoed with haze-free surfaces. One small toning spot is noted near 2 o'clock on the reverse edge." This NCLT is catalogued in the SCWC as a one loti but the coin's reverse clearly states "1 MALOTI". However, the 1979 circulating issue does state "1 LOTI".
Recorded mintage: 3,500 proofs.
Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.1177 oz troy oz AGW (same standard as a British half sovereign).
Catalog reference: Fr-3; KM 5.
