Lebanon 1936 1/2 piastre

Stephen Album sale 32, lot 922

The area of Lebanon was taken from Ottoman control after World War I, and placed under French mandate along with Syria. It was declared the Etat du Gran Liban in 1920. This half piastre was struck in Paris in 1934 and 1936. This specimen was lot 922 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $141. The catalog description^[1] noted, "LEBANON: ½ piastre, 1936, PCGS graded MS66."

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
