This specimen was lot 20211 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. La Rioja. 4 Reales, 1852-B. NGC MS-62. A high grade example for the type with smooth nearly prooflike fields and with just enough tone clinging to the outline of the devices to accentuate the design. A very impressive piece in hand." This one year type, the last issued by the province, is significantly scarcer than the prior issue of 1849-50 (KM 20). The last provincial issues were some half reales of 1854 and 1860 (KM 25).
