Kansu (Gansu) Province is an elongate territory that straddles north-central China, at the west end of the Great Wall. Two mints issued coins in the province. The specimen shown was lot 60240 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $21,510. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Kansu. Dollar, Year 3 (1914). 民國三年袁世凱像“甘肅”壹圓銀幣。. Yuan Shih-kai. Dark toned. 暗包漿色。NGC XF-45.”
