Sincona sale 4, lot 4391

This specimen was lot 4391 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 10,000 CHF (about US$13,303 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Jülich-Berg, Herzogtum Karl Theodor, 1743-1799. Dukat 1751, Düsseldorf. Geharnischtes Brustbild mit langen Haaren und Hermelinmantel nach rechts. Rv. Wappen auf gekrönter, verzierter mit Ordenskette behangener Wappenkartusche. Unikat. Min. Kr. Vorzüglich. (Duchy of Julich-Berg, Charles Theodore, 1743-99, ducat of 1751, Dusseldorf mint. Obverse: armored bust with long hair and ermine mantle to right: reverse: crowned arms with the cross of the order below. Unique. Cleaned, extremely fine.)"

We can't verify if this coin is unique or not but the SCWC lists it as rare. The type is recorded for 1749-51, the final date for gold coinage. Charles Theodore was also elector of the Palatinate and later elector of Bavaria, uniting all the Wittelsbach lines.
