Julich-Berg 1765-AR stuber
This specimen was lot 1179 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $223.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "JÜLICH-BERG: AR stuber, 1765, PCGS graded MS64, ex Don Erickson Collection." This type was struck 1765 only. It was accompanied by a ¼ stuber (KM 205), ½ stuber (KM 206), 3 stuber (KM 208), 12 stuber (KM 210) and thaler (KM 211). Jülich-Berg was a duchy on the lower Rhine which passed in the early seventeenth century to the Elector of the Palatinate (Pfalz-Neuberg). Karl Theodor eventually also became duke of Bavaria and united the three provinces but Jülich-Berg was seized by Napoleon in 1801. After Napoleon's fall, the area passed to Prussia as part of the Rhineland and Bavaria was compensated with Bamberg, Wurzburg and other territories.
