This specimen was lot 2596 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$1,004 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Jülich-Berg, Herzogtum, Johann Wilhelm II. 1679-1716. 2/3 Taler 1700, Düsseldorf. Mit der Münzmeistersignatur HL-O (Heinrich Lorenzs Odenthal). Seltene Variante, Sehr schön (Rare variety, Very fine)." Following the extinction of the local dynasty in 1609, Jülich-Kleve-Berg was partitioned between Brandenburg (which obtained Cleve and Mark) and Pfalz-Neuberg (which obtained Jülich and Berg). Johann Wilhelm, whose portrait appears here, was also count of Pfalz-Neuberg in upper Bavaria and elector palatine 1690-1716. The SCWC lists four varieties of this scarce coin, all priced the same. This one has small oval arms on the reverse and the date in the legend.

Specification: silver, this specimen 16.98 g.
