This specimen was lot 71156 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 50 Sen, Year 6 (1917). PCGS MS-66 Secure Holder. Sharply struck with frosty luster and excellent eye appeal." This type was struck in Tokyo 1913-17. The fifty sen was 13.48 g until 1905, then 10.13 g during 1912-17, then 4.95 g during 1922-38 and brass thereafter.
Recorded mintage: 9,963,232, a common date.
Specification: 10.13 g, 0.800 fine silver.
