The first specimen was lot 71168 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 50 Sen, Year 5 (1916). NGC MS-66. A celebrated 50 Sen of Japan. Brilliant silvery color with full mint bloom. Issued for Emperor Yoshohito or Taisho. Coin is dated Taisho 5 or AD 1916." This type was struck in Tokyo 1913-17 and it is not rare. The fifty sen was 13.48 g until 1905, then 10.13 g during 1912-17, then 4.95 g during 1922-38 and brass thereafter.

Specification: 10.13 g, 0.800 fine silver.
