Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72416

This specimen was lot 72416 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 50 Sen, Year 13 (1924). Taisho (Yoshihito). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details Gold Shield. Some ever so slight cleaning is evident, but this example features a pleasing peripheral tone and enticing brilliance." This type was struck in Tokyo 1922-26. The fifty sen was 13.48 g until 1905, then 10.13 g during 1912-17, then 4.95 g during 1922-38 and brass thereafter.

Recorded mintage: 78,520,000.

Specification: 4.95 g, 0.720 fine silver, 23.8 mm diameter.
