This specimen was lot 72415 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 50 Sen, Year 2 (1913). Taisho (Yoshihito). PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. Scarcely encountered any finer, this brilliant Gem offers incredible brilliance and eye appeal, along with a light peripheral tone on the reverse." The fifty sen was 13.48 g until 1905, then 10.13 g during 1912-17, then 4.95 g during 1922-38 and brass thereafter. This is a fairly common date of a type struck 1913-17.
