Stack's Bowers February 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75355

This specimen was lot 75355 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 50 Sen, Year 45 (1912). Osaka Mint. Yoshihito (Taisho). PCGS MS-65. A wonderful Gem example of the type, bearing pleasing satiny luster that is highlighted by soft marmalade orange and navy blue hues." This type was struck 1906-12 and 1912 is fairly common. This module, reduced from 13.48 g, was used until 1917. Fifty sen were also struck for the Taisho emperor in 1912.

Recorded mintage: 3,677,704 plus 1,928,649 struck for the Taisho emperor.

Specification: 10.1 g, 0.800 fine silver.
