This specimen was lot 1421 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR 50 sen, year 39 (1906), key date, lightly toned, Choice About Unc." This type was struck 1906-12 and 1906 is the scarcest date despite the large mintage. This module, reduced from 13.48 g, was used until 1917.
