Steve Album sale 54, lot 3618

This specimen was lot 3618 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR 20 sen, year 39 (1906), lustrous, better date, NGC graded MS65." This type was struck in large numbers 1906-11 and is common, although the 1906 is somewhat scarce and the 1911 is rare. It superseded an earlier version weighing 5.39 g. The silver ten and fifty sen were similarly shrunk. Altho the ten sen was struck until 1946 and the fifty sen until 1948, the twenty sen was not issued again.

Specification: 4.05 g, 0.800 fine silver, 20.3 mm diameter, reeded edge.
