Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75344

This specimen was lot 75344 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 20 Sen, Year 38 (1905). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). NGC MS-65. Inspiring ash gray toning with notable underlying luster. Few to be found in Gem grade." This type was struck 1874-1905 and most dates are common. The superseding type (KM Y30), issued 1906-11, was 4.05 g, 0.800 fine silver and was the last twenty sen.

Recorded mintage: 8,444,930, a fairly common date.
